Job reference letter is one of the most important document required for Canadian immigration and people tend to submit the CV they have saved in their personal folder for this purpose, which is totally wrong. The job reference letter required by Express entry and SINP is very strict with respect to its contents as they don’t want anything extra mentioned about your nor they need your phone number on the reference letter. Therefore it is very important to follow this article tips and tricks:

Use the following format for creating a reference letter for SINP (Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program) and even an EE (Express Entry) profile.

Reference letter format for Express Entry

Company name and small description about what it does. Its location and phone number.

Next, write down your joining date along with your ending date. Also, mention that you work as a permanent employee for 40 hours per week. write down the titles you had during this job one by one.

Now write down your main job responsibilities and duty according to the NOC code.

Finally mentioned the manager or Human Resource person name who is giving you this letterhead. Provide his phone number and email.

Can I use the same format in my Express Entry ITA submission ?

This format is required by SINP as they have mentioned on their official website linked here. The good thing is you can submit the same reference letter in your Express entry profile as well. Express entry also accepts this layout and it is helpful for your EE journey.

Please note that this layout is not intended for applying for a license or job in Canada. For license and jobs, you should detail down all your roles in these possibilities which you consider important in your resume.

How to write down responsibilities according to NOC code :

The most important trick is to write down your roles and responsibility that matches exactly with the NOC code. For this purpose, I will show you how to do it in a safe manner.

Copy the NOC code rolls and responsibility from the official website into a spreadsheet. I’ll make sure the role and responsibilities are distributed in different rows. For each role write your experience role and responsibility which you performed in your job.

For example, the roles in responsibilities of a NOC code software developer mention that you write or modify code. You will have to refresh the same role responsibility according to your job. Let’s say you will say something like this . Code and modify the source code in Java for insurance software.

What not to do in your reference letter format for Express Entry :

Make sure you don’t miss any roles and responsibilities. This will ensure that your reference letter is according to the NOC code roles and responsibilities. Please do not write any extra roles and responsibilities that you might think are very important.

For example, if you went for an international trip for your client or software department there is no need to mention it if you are applying as a developer. You might think this will make your chances increase by mentioning something like extra skills but it acts in reverse order. Providing extra details of roles and responsibilities can make your chosen NOC code match with other NOC code such as a business analyst or a software analyst or something like that.
